Alaska Veterans Memorial

Freedom is not free. On this day, all Americans are reminded to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our veterans through appropriate public ceremonies and private prayers.

The monument in these photos (see below for another) is located on the George Parks Highway, mile 147, between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Among other things, there are five massive, sculpted, upright concrete slabs. Each honors a branch of our Armed Forces. It is well worth visiting.
